Picture Perfect Photos Are Within Your Reach With These Handy Tips

By Lenard Belmonte

There's a lot you can learn when it comes to photography, and you could spend years learning the craft. However, just knowing a few key tips can mean taking great shots with your camera. This article contains some sound advice on how you can start taking shots you are proud of.

When photographing children, the best angle to take the picture from is their own eye level. Kneel down and put yourself at their height, snapping photos from the child's point of view. This will give you excellent pictures of a child, set in the world at their height. Most pictures of kids are taken looking down from an adult's point of view. This lends itself to many, many pictures of the top of a child's head or an awkward angle of their face.

Don't be afraid to move your subject, if it can be moved, if it's not working for you. You don't have to be the only thing moving if something is amiss. You can create all kinds of interesting shots and compositions by moving to an unexpected location or even using a different source altogether.

When photographing birds or other easily frightened animals, use the zoom feature on your camera. Remember that they will often have a nest with offspring nearby. In order to deflect attention from the nest area, birds will likely fly away at the slightest noise. If you have an SLR camera with the capability of changing lenses, use the most powerful zoom that you have in order to get multiple shots before being detected by your subject.

If you think you should not bother taking a photograph because everyone and his uncle have already taken the same shot, take it anyway. Put your own unique spin on it, and enjoy your photograph of the full autumn moon, the spring tulips at the park or the famous church downtown.

A good photograph should capture only a part of something. You do not need to get a panoramic vision when you can find the right detail that says it all. You should learn how to look for something that will speak to people and convey the meaning you are looking for.

Careful focusing is extremely important when trying to capture the perfect picture, especially when working with SLR cameras that allow you to adjust the aperture and customize the depth of field. Paying close attention to exactly what is and what is not in focus can mean the difference between a great picture and a disappointment.

When photographing with a flash, be very particular about where you point your flash. Remember that if your flash goes off directly at or on your subject, it will cause evident glare in the resulting picture. To get the most from your flash without ruining your picture, it is best to tilt your camera upward slightly.

Like any science or art form, photography is something you could study and read about for a good portion of your life. Or, you could just apply what you have read in this article and improve your photography immediately. Keep these tips in mind the next time your camera is in your hands and you'll see better images quickly.
