Outdoor Dining NYC Fashion Continues To Impress Diners

By Casandra Cotton

There appears to be common agreement amongst food lovers that, due to factors not fully understood, our daily chow just seems to have more taste when consumed out-of-doors. Outdoor dining NYC fashion is no different and the citizens of New York take to balconies, parks and, for the very fortunate, into the garden to consume their daily fare.

Perhaps it is increased oxygenation of taste buds, the presence of sunlight or simply just that feel good factor. Barbecues, the freshest fried fish or the common hamburger all share a common thread, they taste best when consumed in the great outdoors.

The people of Italy gave us the words al fresco which immediately fills the minds of some people with visions and smells of delectable cooking. In the circumstances of food it is best interpreted basically as the act of eating outside. The peoples of America seem to have allocated this term exclusively to eating establishments that make this their forte. As trends have developed the idea has become almost a specialized eating out concept. As so often is the case New York leads the way by offering a range of top al fresco institutions to residents and visitors alike.

One of the finest locations is on the Manhattan shoreline overlooking the East River with its panorama of the skyline. For some just to soak in this iconic view is sufficient and for a short while the food is forgotten. Some areas are furnished with tables designed to create a communal atmosphere, a sort of picnicking site within a great restaurant.

Lovers of roof top restaurants will be delighted with the choices available in Manhattan's Fifth Avenue region. The objective seems to be outside or bust and restaurateurs will provide either an enormous umbrella, no matter for the heat or the wet, or heaters for when it cools down. They certainly try hard to satisfy the yearning to eat outside no matter what the weather. Of course the food is amazing, particularly the Malay.

It is pretty difficult to top some of the roof top or riverside options mentioned above. However, a meal on a boat might do the trick. Restaurants integrated into luxury boats offer out-of-doors cooking on a new level. Cocktails, incredible dishes, varied styles, serenading musical interludes while all the time cruising effortlessly past some of the best New York sights.

For some an urban outside eating experience has to be the real original thing. This means eating at sidewalk level where you can see, hear and sometimes smell the traffic. The Meat Packing District is an excellent example of this and is named after the many meat distribution companies that had their depots in this area. There are few of these remaining but what does remain is the real New York street level feel where one could almost reach out and touch passing pedestrians. This is the true hustle and bustle of the city type of feeling, and once again there is no shortage of venues or choice of food.

Often it is just something simple on the balcony or in the park and how very enjoyable this can be. But when the occasion demands something special rest assured outdoor dining NYC style is alive and well.
