Survival Kit - What's on Your List for Survival Kit?

By Matt Burns

In this article, we're going to take you through some of the most important things to remember when making your survival kit list. Having a survival kit is one thing, but having one that is correctly equipped is quite another. With much of the blame for the increase in recent natural disaster across the planet being placed firmly at the feet of global warming, it has never been more important to have your survival kit packed and ready to go. But how do you know what to put in it? This is a very difficult thing to think through, as it's something you hope will never happen to you. Unfortunately however, times are such that you do have to think about it. And putting the wrong things in your survival kit is largely akin to not having a survival kit at all.

One of the most important things to remember when preparing your survival kit list is that it must be small enough for you to carry. In the event of a disaster you may well be advised to stay put, in which case you will likely have everything within your home or office or wherever you are at the time, that you will need to survive. But where a well constructed and well thought through survival kit list comes in useful, is for those crisis situations where you need to leave wherever you are quickly. If you are ever involved in a disaster that requires urgent and immediate action such as this, then a well constructed survival kit can and will be the difference between surviving and not surviving.

A must have on any survival kit list is food and water. Sounds obvious right? Well, while it might be obvious, it's not entirely correct. Any crisis which means that you need to rely on your pre-prepared survival kit list, is by its very nature going to be a large scale event. A big disaster on this scale is not likely to be resolved for some time. This means that you are then going to need enough food and water in your survival kit to see you through until 'normality' is restored.

Now you see the problem. You are going to need more food and water to see you through a disaster like this then you would ever be able to carry. Let's not forget either, that you should never rely on your car being useable in a crisis like this. Your survival kit should always be small enough to carry on your person. Far better, to carry the tools and equipment with you that will help you to gather safe food and water in the days and maybe even months after the crisis.

New products are being released by some of the worlds leading and most innovative survival companies on a daily basis. Obviously it goes without saying that the basics of your disaster kit such as food and drink will never change. But there are more and more products emerging on today's market, which can drastically improve your chances of survival in the event of a major disaster.

So before we all start to search for the perfect list for survival kit, in the hope that this will see us lucky few emerge from the ashes of global disaster, maybe we should slow down just and as ourselves...is this the end of the world, or just an unfortunate coincidence? It might be farfetched to claim that the world as we know it will end, but it's even more farfetched to not be prepared for a disaster of some scale. Reporters and fear mongers may over exaggerate the threat a bit to inflate readerships, but if you fail to prepare at all, then prepare to fail completely.
