Why Business Debt Collection Can Be Tiring

By Rob Sutter

It's almost become a certainty that I would come across more good news stories than those that are not so good when I'm writing about business debt collections and the like. The good stories have the propensity to exist, without question, but the stories that are not so good seem to outnumber them heavily. People will read these news stories and, as a result, they will levy quite a bit of disdain towards those who work in this particular industry. Not all collectors are terrible, though, and the good ones especially endure the unneeded brunt of assault.

People who have been the target of others working in business debt collections have filed complaints due to immoral business practices. If you don't know much about this line of work, I can assure you that what you'd read would be stunning. For instance, it's technically against the law for a collector to habitually contact a person until it bleeds into the area of harassment. Try as the laws might, though, collectors may continue to call debtors without any restraint and the fact that said debtors can be called during the early hours of morning makes strong companies such as R-R-S look horrible.

It would be a lie to say that debtors are without fault because there are cases in which they can be rather dangerous. In such a case, I came across one news story in particular and it told about debt collectors as well as the many dangerous occurrences they find themselves encountering. Debtors have become quite visceral as they would issue threats at collectors, whether they are morally good or not. Death and bomb threats begin to pile as a result and such aspects shouldn't be part of a job, debt collecting or otherwise.

The confessions in the line of debt collecting do not simply cease at that point, either. Debtors being referred to as pushy instigators can be described as a fabrication since they don't look for a shouting bout over the telephone. They don't want to fight with the people they want to conduct business with but rather work alongside them so that all parties are ultimately satisfied. The best mindset to go into with this is a calm one so that no debtor will be easily scared away. Perhaps the biggest misconception in debt collecting is that all debt collectors are malicious people.

The struggles of debt collecting are plentiful and they continue on a daily basis, which is something that simply shouldn't be. If you were to ask me what the problem between collectors and debtors is, it would be the idea that communication is shoddy. Lines seem to get tangled and, as a result, the wrong messages are received which only adds to the tension between the parties in question. I believe that debtors mean well and they just want to fix their financial situations. In addition, collectors are people doing their jobs and when they're paid on commission, they want the best solution to come about.
