Five Critical Questions To Ask To Take Your Parent Teenager Relationship To A New Level

By Paul G Saver

Your parent teenager relationship journey can be a rocky one and the potential for breakdown lies around every bend on the road. Whilst that might sound extreme a more common scenario is a relationship that is just not going anywhere.

As shocking as it might appear, sometimes an absolute breakdown of your parent teenager relationship is needed compared to a relationship that is formal and emotionally distant. In the latter case, complacency is almost inevitable which means the relationship could crash at any time. In the former case, the resultant emotional pain and turmoil, can have the positive effect of spurring a parent to get proactive and not take the relationship for granted.

Let it be known that whilst it is natural to have great expectations of your teen, the only person you can realistically change is the person looking back at you in the mirror.

To help you on your journey so that you don't end up with a broken, strained or stalemated parent teenager relationship that is irretrievable, here are five powerful questions to ask of yourself. So grab a pen and paper, relax and get to work.

Question One. What are your three most important strengths as a parent?

Question Two. What do you consider to be your three worst behaviors as a parent?

Question Three. What is the worst behavior of your teenager, that triggers you to want to issue a 'red card'?

Question Four. What action could you take, next time you anticipate that a 'red card' is coming?

Question Five. What three action steps could you take that would help your teenager to grow their personality?

Oftentimes in life, when you want to make improvements, you simply change your perspective. By tweaking the way you look at yourself, others and the situation, change becomes natural and even effortless. The same is true in developing your parent teenager relationship. It need not be a lost cause or hell on Earth. In fact it can be deeply meaningful, rewarding, wonderful and a chunk of heaven on Earth.
